Ideas I like from watching music videos!

Regina Spektor - All The Rowboats 

* Bright lights on faces
* Close up's of faces
* Jumping into something e.g. walls
* Changing colours
* Running
* Under water
* Picture/freeze frame transition
* Shots from above the artist
* Playing instruments
* Clones of the artist
* Air machines
* Ropes
* White background
* Shadows
* Between walls, tight space
* Close up's of feet
* Computerized imagery

Ok Go -This too shall pass

* Lip syncing
* Like a giant mouse trap game - one thing knocking another over & starting something else off
* White overall question - each band member with same costume but different coloured splattered paint > shows that they are all in a band but differences between them

Gotye - Somebody that I used to know 

* Close ups of feet
* Shots moving up the body
* Lip syncing
* Plain background
* Different backgrounds
* Close up of face lip syncing - not always looking at camera
* Lines drawn across screen (background) and then being fill-coloured in one at a time but with a drawing effect > eventually whole background behind the artist coloured in
* Drawings (lines) appearing on the artist
* So covered in, so blend in with the background
* Paint slowly comes off, one bit at a time


I found out that city locations and shots are really common in music videos.


What I noticed when watching previous students music videos:
* The title of the song appears at the beginning
* Cars are common
* Close up's of hands, faces and eyes
* Lighting is important -city bright lights look really good
* Speeding shots up
* Popular, city locations
* Confident actors
* Lip syncing
* Alcohol
* Mirrors
* Different angles of the same shot
* Different costumes throughout video
* Clones of the artist
* Actors wear similar clothes to other band members
* Need convincing syncing
* Low angle shots
* Blue lights on performance clips
* A lot of students put their school/candidate number on the video - MUST NOT DO THIS - this ruins the whole video
* Boyfriend and girlfriend arguments are really common

Common Locations:
- Cities
- Bedrooms
- House
- Alleys
- Car Parks (open roof/top floor)
- Cars
- Shops near by
- Night clubs / Pubs
- Closed in spaces
- Woods/country areas
