Charlotte Hatherley - Bastardo
This music video is targeting 1970's Teen Girl.
Intertextuality (References to other media texts) - Magazines, this magazine is very similar to 'Jackie' > this is how we know that this music video is targeting a 1970's teen girl.
Voyeurism (Notions Of Looking) - Reading the magazine and she plays guitar in front of the mirror
Hyper Reality (Exaggerated, Distorted, Heightened) - Moving pictures = syncing, she comes out of the magazine
I learnt that when making my own music video I need to have an ending to the video and not just have it to stop when the music does (needs to have a bang!)
Kasabian - LSF
This music video shows voyeurism. We see the female audience's reaction's - they are performing to a female orientated prison and the prison guards. High angles are used on the prisoners which takes power away from them.
He gives the girl in the audience a harmonica which has the key in it to escape from the prison. This key represents freedom, this is done because it represents the audience being free when they listen to their music. This also gives the main singer a lot of power.
Within this video we see phallic imagery this includes the close up's of the nightsticks as well as the key and the lock (key going into lock). Both the prisoners and prison guards are attracted to the band which is why they are not noticing that the prisoners escaping.
Women audience are attracted to the band because of their appearance and the power they seem to have but also men are interested in this video because of the women orientated audience and also the power that the band have because they want to be them and have this power too.
Jennifer Lopez - If you had my love
This music video also shows voyeurism. Jennifer Lopez is very sexualized with the close up's of her different body parts as well as the way she moves. We also see an example of male gaze in this video - the men are watching her being sexualized over the Internet. She is wearing little clothes in the video and white dresses > this symbolizes angelic and innocence which is the opposite that is being shown with the camera angles and editing. I think she is being portrayed as innocent because this helps her image with young children especially girls getting influenced by her but the close up's and costume is because she is gaining a male audience with her appearance.
Blur - The Universal
This video is a good example of intertextuality. The intertextual reference is to Clockwork Orange with the mannequins, female body parts being sexualized and the image and colours. I think that they are associating themselves with Clockwork Orange as they are showing that they are a British band and are a bit rebellious and want themselves known to be big like this film. But the colours are slightly different in places and I think this has been done deliberately so that there is a slight difference to Clockwork Orange as they are not as rebellious and don't want to give themselves a bad image.
The Chemical Brothers - Hey boy, hey girl
This video is an example of hyper-reality. Hyper reality is real life being being over exaggerated. This video shows things getting worse as things carry on, it starts off quite normal. Later on, when she is an adult, we see her hallucinating from drugs and seeing everything all skeletons which is not real life at all.
