For my performance video I chose to analysis 'Kasabian - Days Are Forgotten'. This video is a good example of a performance based video but is also an example of a conceptual video.
Performance videos are made to show that the band can perform well and live; this is good for the band as this would also help ticket sales for concerts by convincing the audience that the band would be worth while seeing live. Kasabian perform this act well and can successfully convince their audience that they would be good to see live. They perform this so well as they get right into lip-syncing and really look like they are performing; this is important to get the artist to do this as if they do not look like they are really performing, this ruins the whole video and ruins the effect that the artist can perform live.
We see the band lip-syncing and syncing to the music but we also see animated shapes moving along with the music. The band's instruments are also made from conceptual as they are not really there, they are made up from computerized animated white lines. The conceptual white lines at the beginning move with the beat of the music again to be promoting the song.
The video is in black and white which makes it more neutral and makes the quality of the video a lot better as it matches in with the dark side of the music genre. The band members are dressed in dark colours which takes away any distraction to the video from the song. They would not want to have too much distraction to the video as they are trying to promote the song and want the song to be brought - the video can't be brought.
Camera shots are different in this music video, we have many close up's of the band members faces and the different instruments that they are playing. The most shots we see are of the main singer; this is to show that he is the main artist in the band so this is why we see him most. We also see shots of all the band together to show that they are a band and are all together, this creates a good look for the audience as many people will want a band that stick together. There are also shots from above the band to give us a different shot to make the video more interesting. We can also see things differently this way and that the band look more convincing performing.
